Salary: £28,200 – £30,300

About the role:

The National Oceanography Centre is an international leader in the development and application of coastal-ocean numerical models and shelf sea science. We are recruiting a coastal-ocean modeller to work in the vibrant modelling group at NOC in Liverpool. The successful applicant will work on developing, testing and applying the next generation of coastal-ocean models for the Northwest European Continental shelf, based on the NEMO ocean modelling system at high resolution and fully coupled to components of the earth system. You will work on the new European Union North West Shelf Copernicus services. Working closely with the UK Met Office, you will be involved in pulling through this capability to operational oceanographic forecasts, hindcasts and reanalyses, the analysis and interpretation of these, and working on the resulting scientific outputs, such as journal publications.

About You:

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic and outgoing ocean modeller with an eagerness to work in a team. You will be highly numerate, have a PhD or equivalent research record, and ideally knowledge of shelf sea physical oceanographic processes. You will have a first degree in physical sciences, mathematics or oceanography and demonstrated programming skills. Good written and oral communications skills are essential. A proven ability in scientific publication would be advantageous.
